E-poster on double reporting of brain MR wins an award at the UKRC 2008
June 8, 2008 – The PACS and Teleradiology Group today awarded TMC senior radiologists for their abstract submission on “Double Reading of Brain MR. 12-month Results”. The abstract authored by Dr. Serrallonga, Dr. Grivé, Dr. Domènech, Dr. Schorlemmer and Dr. Billing, was one of the two winners selected at the UKRC 2008.
The abstract is based on a one-year study where a thorough double reading system of 5 discrepancy degrees was used to review more than 4700 adult outpatient brain MRI reports. The study concluded that implementing a systematic quality protocol on double reading does in fact reduce diagnostic errors and slip ups; ensures uniformity and clarity in reporting style and language; and most importantly provides for better communication and dialogue between radiologists and referring physicians.
TMC performs systematic double readings as part of its aim to control quality in medical diagnosis and accuracy as well as reporting style and language. The centre maintains monthly internal and external audits to monitor medical diagnosis, report format and language. By upholding strict and controlled quality measures, TMC hopes to inspire a global trust in teleradiology as an instrumental means to fulfilling increasing demands in radiology services today and tomorrow.
TMC is a diagnostic centre that provides sub-specialist reporting services, training and support to healthcare providers. Today, TMC is the largest teleradiology centre as well as the largest MRI diagnostic centre in the UK with more than 70 specialist radiologists in post.
